Alternatives To Love

by After The Apple

ATL is a partially devised piece focusing on the bastardisation of human connection and how we often forget to form truly intimate relationships of any kind— familial, romantic, platonic, or even our interactions with strangers. It began as a conversation about psychosis onset by AI romantic partners but has developed into a broader conversation on the diminishing of human connection- I mean, when was the last time you complimented a stranger, or asked a random person on the street for directions? By blending script, physical theatre, and chorus, with an episodic structure, we explore various pitfalls in today's inter-personal relationships whilst also highlighting multiple moments of hope. This array of approaches mimics the various ways we as humans connect and create, building a microcosm of our society to challenge what it means to connect in a genuine way in our 21st century amidst rising technology and other ginormous world issues.
