GAY The Musical

14 - 15 Oct 2026

GAY The Musical

by Mrs Animation Productions

Meet the playwright who inspired generations of theatre makers but somehow slipped through the history books.

Guided by the wonderfully eccentric Mrs Animation, GAY The Musical is an original musical comedy packed with unforgettable songs, ghosts, satire, scandal and heart. Blending history with modern humour, the show follows John Gay as he fights to reclaim his place in British theatre, proving that some stories deserve to be told again.

Premiering to three sold out performances at Barnstaple Fringe, the production has quickly begun its touring journey, celebrating one of Britain's most influential yet overlooked playwrights through original music, larger than life characters and plenty of laughs.

Whether you're a musical theatre lover, a history enthusiast, or simply looking for something fresh and original, GAY The Musical offers a joyful, uplifting evening that shines a spotlight on a remarkable life with warmth, wit and imagination.

"Thank you for bringing our Barumite history to life so brilliantly... Absolutely loved it! I'll smile every time I pass John Gay Road now."

Come for the title, stay for the story!
