Gut Feelings
Ever felt your stomach growl in a silent room and wished you could disappear? Gut Feelings dives headfirst into those moments, and asks us to stay. Collaborated between a composer and a researcher, this sound lecture performance by Sheffield-based duo Individual Hot Pot (Nam Huh & Ewan Knight) explores the social and cultural life through the soundscape of involuntary bodily sounds. From throat clearing to joint cracks, these overlooked noises become material for live electronic improvisation, multilingual speech, and found footage, transforming discomfort into resonance.
Blending experimental sound, live sampling, and playful lecture, Gut Feelings offers an intimate, multi-sensory journey through the messiness of being heard (and overheard). It draws on cross-cultural research into politeness, shame, and care to challenge how we listen, and what we choose to tune out.
This is not just a performance; it’s a radically tender reframe of awkwardness. A show where the body interrupts, and that interruption becomes connection. Gut Feelings invites you to laugh, wince, and listen anew. Perfect for curious ears, it’s a bold, live experiment in togetherness through shared disruption.
