I Hate King Lear

Written for fans of Cain and Abel adaptions, The Mountain Goats, Noah Kahan’s new album, the siblings who made their family watch their concerts, and Thanksgiving haters, I Hate King Lear tells the story of Phoebe, who has found the script to her life. Unfortunately, it is Shakespeare’s King Lear, and she is playing Regan. As Phoebe’s family evolves after the birth of her younger sister (Cordelia), Phoebe feels tied to her past through her intense relationship with her older sister (Goneril) who is present on stage and physically tethered to Phoebe the entire time. Using the classical text as a lens to understand her childhood, Phoebe must decide between the bond of a sister and the chance for a better life. Because at the end of this story, someone has to die. So Phoebe needs to act fast.
