Money makes the world go round
An exciting new split bill performed by Grace Whitty and Jack de Hennin exploring the weird and enticing world of corporate finance through theatre and clown. Jack's show 'Lobby' is a biting political satire that peels back the velvet curtain of Westminster to reveal the lazy, cynical, and transactional world of corporate lobbying. Guided by a charming but unscrupulous Narrator — tending his garden in a straw hat and gloves — the audience is taken on a whirlwind tour of London's power circuits: from smoke-filled rooms at the Carlton Club and private dining at the Ritz to hushed committee rooms where policy is quietly sewn up. Through razor-sharp monologues, absurd media montages, and a cast of self-serving politicians and operatives, Lobby shows how democracy is bent not by ideology or malice, but by convenience, vanity, and the lure of easy money.
After two Edinburgh Fringe runs, Grace is now working on a new show 'Joy'. Inspired by the Government Ad campaign in 2020 that encouraged artists to reskill into cyber, her show follows the the story of a little girl dreaming of being a ballerina, before deciding to work in finance after seeing the advert on a train. The show will be a dynamic mix of theatre, clown, ballet, puppetry and visual arts; combining her training at Ecole Philippe Gaulier and 13 years of ballet training to ask the audience to reflect on the wild dreams we had as children whether we would be happier if we were rolling in money and working in an office block.

A 50-seat fringe venue above The Bread & Roses Pub, the theatre programs a wide-spread variety of productions for local as well as far-reaching audiences. Equality, diversity and artistic quality are at the forefront of the theatre's programming, which features in-house productions as well as many visiting companies. The theatre regularly hosts touring shows and has worked with award-winning ensembles with decades of experience but also frequently welcomes and supports emerging theatre-makers taking their first steps. The programme includes new writing, contemporary revivals, reinvented classics and occasionally also devised work, improvisational theatre, comedy events, family shows and physical theatre.
Recently renovated, The Bread and Roses Theatre features brand new tiered seating, with 50 new individual seats, and a professional floor.
