Pentimento
“Something doesn’t sit right when the birds stop singing. . .” Revisiting the picturesque summer home of Annie’s college boyfriend, erstwhile siblings Annie and Caleb unpack their youth and the devolution of their siblinghood as they levy accusations of stolen dreams. The Pendleton House appears at first to be a lush, secluded holiday home of the New York elite: a beautiful, old home surrounded by nothing but nature, packed to the brim with the most lavish wines old money can buy. Annie and Caleb, fresh out of rural Indiana, find themselves entranced by this glimpse into a lifestyle entirely out of reach. Over the years, the hidden costs start to creep in. As she slowly gets swallowed by the idyllic Pendleton House, Annie must fight for her agency. When a parent dies, Caleb abandons the art school of which Annie always dreamt, and pangs of jealousy and resentment begin to poison the summer air.
