Syconium: The Salt Shall Bitter the Fruit

Has the Virgin Mary ever visited you as a lamp? Have you ever had a fight with your mother? Have you been a good daughter? Our first-ever play explores the relationship between daughters and mothers, the spiritual, digital, and international borders that separate us, and the fine line between care and contempt. How difficult it can be to receive care when we feel at our lowest, and how sometimes love comes in many strange ways, such as brushing your hair.

Using projections in this otherwise one-woman show, we follow a young woman alone in her bedroom, in another country from her home. We see the lengths that daughters and mothers will go to reach and evade one another– even praying to a lamp to avoid a phone call.

This play is for mothers and daughters, and all those who have "mothered" or "daughtered".
