The First Coming of Phineas Pratt

In 1622, Phineas Pratt sails from London to the New World, hired to help found an all-male, beaver-pelting colony at Wessagusset, Massachusetts. It does not go well. The men starve through the winter and steal corn from the Massachusett tribe. The colony collapses within a year. The violence doesn't. It puts America on a path it never left: chosen, blameless, owed the whole continent(and maybe the world).

Forty years later, Phineas tells the whole story to the Massachusetts General Court, because he wants free land. It's one of the most extraordinary first-person accounts in early American history. It is also incredibly self-serving, frequently nonsensical, and an accidental indictment of Phineas himself and the entire English colonial project.

Four hundred years later, his direct descendant Jax Pratt, now living in London, discovered the document. In his first one-man show, Jax turns his ancestor's story into anti-Thanksgiving propaganda.
