The Trojan Women of Today
Anchored in a Classical Greek text and interweaving it with current affairs, “The Trojan Women of Today” brings together the past and the present through a fresh new approach to Euripides’s classical Greek tragedy. The performance creates a discourse between Euripides's heroines from 'The Trojan Women' and tragic figures from our time. Using a mixture of text, physical theatre, and visuals, alongside a blend of languages that combines Euripides' classical verse with first-hand contemporary interviews, recountings, and verbatim experiences, we shine a light on all the named and unnamed heroines. We give them space to be heard and raise a glass to all those who dare to speak aloud, unafraid to look truth in the eye. Through the juxtaposition of words spoken by Euripides's characters – Hecuba, Andromache, Cassandra, and the chorus of Trojan Women – with the experiences of contemporary women across the globe, we give voice to all who have been and continue to be silenced.
