Vermilion x Ally London
Formed in London by Shropshire-bred composers Oran Johnson and Jonty Lefroy Watt, Vermilion was born of a desire to combine their classical training with rock and pop influences. Vermilion creates music that combines guitar riffs, glitchy beats, and luminous harmonies, and their shows are infused with both classical chamber-music intimacy and the energy of a rock gig.
Ally London is an acclaimed singer-songwriter and soprano with a voice equally at home on opera and pop stages. A genre-bending artist herself, Ally has headlined a classical tour of China and been an official artist of SXSW London.
In this show, distorted guitars drift alongside crystalline vocals, and ambient electronic grooves effervesce with sinuous keyboards. There are moments of intense activity and of profound stillness. In an emotional centrepiece, Ally London's high-soprano voice interweaves Vermilion’s dense textures with beguiling delicacy. As the music pulses in and out of familiarity, the accumulating soundworld gradually unfolds into an ecstatic, joyful release.
