Lieve de Putter presents Echoes
Have you ever felt like your tongue was ripped from your body
And you can just
See it
Writhing on the floor
Like a snake
Like it’s trying to crawl back to you?
Echoes is a one woman show about the suppression and loss of the female voice. Supported by the women of Greek-Roman myths, an actress confronts the fear of her own voice and tries both to uncover the origins of that fear as well as how she might reclaim her voice, through the echoes of the lost voices from the past.
Echo. Spoke too much and was forever cursed to echo what others say.
Philomela. Tongue severed and could not tell what had been done to her.
Cassandra. A prophetess that no one would believe.
Arachne. Said the wrong thing in the face of the gods.
Helen. Bound to Troy and never allowed to own her own story.
What can we do to keep ourselves from disappearing in a male driven narrative?
