Hummingbird Productions present Hanging by a Thread
Based on B’s personal experiences, this witty and powerful one person play explores patterns of abuse, mental breakdown, and non-male rage as an appropriate response to oppression. Flicking back and forth in time, we see B as feisty child, repressed medical student, rebellious punk singer, broken wife and mother and finally accomplished artist, as they shed the layers that stifled their life-spark. A moment of inspiration, watching Jimi Hendrix on TV in their early teens, symbolises the moments of deep realisation that are scattered through our lives, moments which remind us that breakout and breakthrough are always possible. The play explores the pressures on women to be ‘good’, caring and conforming, the dangerous situations they can find themselves in, the family patterns that keep us stuck and the thread that runs through our lives, woven of unbeatable spirit, courage and power, a thread that never breaks.
