Unbound Dialogue Theatre Co. Presents Moth(er...)
When did the word ‘Woman,’ get replaced with ‘Baby Making Factory?’ Follow the character of ‘Lucy,’ (played by emerging artist, Jessica-Anne Blúm) as she takes on the reality of what her choice as a young woman means. This semi-autobiographical performance discusses the response to not wanting to have children, the intensity of almost having a child and the loss that comes with miscarriage. ‘Moth(er...),’ faces the lived experiences of societal discouragements, familial pressures and the judgements of peers and partners when there is a decision made outside of the ‘normal,’ lifestyle expectations.
Following areas of difficult emotional impacts to quirky comedic scenes, the piece tackles the pressure of choice on a 20 something year old’s shoulders and delves into the psychoanalytical elements of the human psyche regarding the right of body autonomy, choice and ‘duty.’ Watch Lucy tackles the comments of ‘you’ll change your mind when you’re older,’ as she tries to stand for how she feels. Discussing what makes her a woman and the ways in which people have tried to make her feel like less than. Find out where the road leads for Lucy and her decisions over her life.
