Narcissistic Reflections on a Queer Childhood
Our show is a musical-comedy-solo-queer cabaret, mainly about what it says on the tin – growing up queer. Of course, though, those three words mean a lot more than anything that fits inside of a tin. They mean very specific things to different people. So, the show is really Kit's exploration as a trans-masculine actor, performer, writer and singer-songwriter of the relationship between his gender and performance. Reflecting on his childhood now, as a young actor, Narcissistic Reflections on a Queer Childhood asks the question – what happens when playing and becoming others makes you feel more yourself?
The sold out first performance of the show (Corpus Playroom Cambridge, November 2023) was enthusiastically received, gaining praises for its “sheer propensity and variation” and the “impressive disbandment of tradition not only in the blatant identity of the show, but in the thorough yet exciting structure and plethora of skill that is on display.” (Varsity ★ ★ ★ ★ ★)
The show was then selected to be a part of the Hope Theatre’s 2025 Write Club Festival, selling out it’s full run, and receiving praise for it’s “...swashbuckling defiance of categorisation” and recognising it as “a love letter to the acts of dressing up and playing pretend afforded us in youth” (A Young(ish) Perspective ★★★★). It was then selected by the artistic directors at the Hope for a second full week run, for which it also again received acclaim: “This is confessional theatre at its finest—anchored in place, time, and lived experience” (Adventures in Theatreland ★★★★).
We are so excited to bring it to Lambeth Fringe!
